Rethinking Whole Class Discussion, Edutopedia Viewed June 25, 2013
The article about classroom discussions and the art of questioning has hit the heart of the issues our school was dealing with as we transitioned into the new Common Core standards and the approaches we were using in an attempt to successfully integrate them into our classroom.  The main point that I tried to emphasize  to my co-workers last year was moving from convergent thinking to divergent thinking and how our questioning techniques have to lead our students down that path.

  1. I too read that same article and I can tell you this much, I catch myself delving back into my old ways more than I'd like to admit. We certainly do need to work together to continue to ask the more divergent thinking questions so that our students are getting the biggest "bang for their buck" so to speak. I'm glad to see someone else also took the time to read through an extremely interesting article.

  2. It was a good read. I sent it to my 5th grade math team and principal as a reminder of where we need to be moving in the Common Core transition

  3. What a great article, I love how it calls out teachers for using the quiz show type of discourse. It’s so important to get to the deeper levels of discussion especially as common core standards help to put emphasis on them.
